Synopsis

Shawn is forced to leave New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to finish her MFA in photography. Having left someone special behind, she embarks on an ambitious project that brings her face to face with some of New York's most eligible and intriguing bachelors. Three unique men open up a window into her life, as she comes to terms with the aftermath of a traumatic event that changed The Bayou forever.

Director's Statement

I didn't grow up wanting to be a filmmaker. It's something that chose me. At the age of nineteen I was approached on the streets of New York to be in a short film, and ever since then I've been in love with storytelling.

Marvin Yves - Director
  • Into Focus began in 2010 with a few friends interested in telling a story we could identify with. It's loosely based on a friend who was attending Tulane University in Louisiana and was forced to leave in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. I spoke with her at length about how people in New York related to her experience and these conversations provided a lot of the foundation for the main character and the people she encounters.

  • There were over 600,000 households uprooted, 1,800 lives lost, and another 700 plus that remained missing. The immediate and long-term effects of a natural disaster of this scale are often intangible. After visiting New Orleans and experiencing it's rich diverse culture, I was convinced that we had a story was worth telling.
